Summer finally Arrives
...take us along on your travels for extra fun...
We're shifting gears at Kelly Ann's as hot weather replaces the cool, comfortable spring just past. Our ideas for summer 2011 include a cool hang-out for learning and fun, and community outreach to give purpose to your sewing and quilting.
We're looking forward to some vacation reward for putting up with winter, and we know you are, too. Stop by and tell us where your travels will take you. Then take along your Kelly Ann's bag on your trip and shoot a picture with you and your bag against a memorable destination in the background, and we'll host your picture (one per vacationer!) on our web site.
Have a great summer!
Trunk Show and Book Signing
We'll be hosting a book signing on Saturday, June 11, starting at 11 AM. Susan and Christine of Swirly Girl fame will put on a trunk show of the quilts from their new book, Think Fast, then sign copies of their new book until 1 PM. Signed books must be purchased at Kelly Ann's.
Sit and Sew
Sit and Sew Fridays begin on Friday, June 10, and continue throughout the summer. Our classroom is reserved for classes on the first Friday of each month, but the rest are yours to come enjoy the a/c and finish up some of those UFOs. Bring a friend and make a day of it, sewing and visiting.
Fun Classes
On Saturday, June 18, Pam Clifton will be offering Accidental Landscapes. If you ever wanted to make a landscape wall hanging, but thought it was a daunting task, this class is for you! Using techniques by Karen Eckmeier of The Quilted Lizard, you can have one of your very own.
If you can play outside the lines or are willing to give it a try, you might just make it home with a completed beach landscape.
On Saturday, July 16, Irma Whitlock will once again offer her popular LoneStar class. This class fills up quickly, so hurry and sign up.
Community Outreach
As quilters we're always looking for ways to help our community. This month we'll continue in that spirit by collecting travel-sized toiletries for the Safe Shelter in Culpeper. Your name will be placed into a drawing for a $25.00 Kelly Ann's gift certificate each time you drop off one or more.
With all of the natural disasters happening in the country we feel a need to extend our community. We will be collecting quilts for the tornado victims in Joplin, Missouri. Drop off your charitable work, and we'll box them up and mail them to a friend who will make sure they get into the right hands.
You Can Help The Virginia Quilt Museum
You have the skill in your hands to raise funds for the Virginia Quilt Museum! Create a small Christmas quilt ornament, no larger than 6-inches on a side, and send it to the Virginia Quilt Museum by July 31, 2011. Visitors to the Museum will vote on their favorite small quilt ornaments, and three quilters will win prizes.
First prize is a $25 gift certificate, second a $15 certificate and third, a $10 certificate. The certificates can be redeemed in the museum shop.
All of the handmade Christmas ornaments will be sold in the museum shop to support museum operations and the preservation of quilts.
Are you a new quilter, or not experienced in miniatures? Make some ornaments anyway ... that’s called folk art, and lots of people love it on their tree.
Send ornaments, your name and address to:
Virginia Quilt Museum
301 S. Main Street
Harrisonburg, Virginia 22801
Thank you for supporting the preservation and encouragement of quilting!
Going Green Drawing
In an effort to work greener, Kelly Ann's is offering a great deal to our customers. While shopping, each time you decline one of our plastic bags or bring in a bag of your own, you can enter your name into a monthly drawing for a $10.00 gift certificate.
The winner of the $10.00 going green store credit is Carol Gillespie of Gainesville, Virginia! Thanks, Carol, for your efforts in helping us go green at Kelly Ann's Quilting.
