News and Happenings for
December, 2006

New In The Shop

Three bright colors of Oh So Soft fabric: lime green, blush pink and saffron yellow. If you liked Minkee, you'll love Oh So Soft!

Two new patterns and one new book from Making Lemonade Designs: The Weekend Quilt, Fiesta Fruit and Weekend Wonders.

The latest in the Turning Twenty book series, Turning Twenty Around The Block.

Six new tone-on-tone white and cream fabrics.

Six bolts from Robert Kaufman's Nature Combo: various shades of brown that resemble natural wood grains (pretty neat-looking, you almost expect to feel wood grain when you handle the fabric); four bolts of Kaufman's Gentle Flowers, a vintage line in soft teals and taupes.

Two new patterns: 5 & Dime and Just Can't Cut It. Our pattern collection continues to grow!

Crazy Eights! Eight fat quarters is all you'll need with this pattern to make a lovely quilt top. See our in-store sample and get your bundled fat quarters and the pattern in our front room.

December Clearance Sale

We're clearing our racks for the anticipated arrival of our Fall Quilt Market fabrics. Throughout December we'll discount a variety of bolts from across our lines, beginning with Moda Marble Botanicals all of our Christmas fabric. The markdowns will change week-to-week through the end of the month. Stop in for some last-minute savings this holiday season!

Behind The Scenes Of The Online Quilt Show

We've been asked how we create the Online Quilt Show pages for this web site, so here's a quick rundown.

We use Picasa2, available FREE from Google. It handles importing the pictures of your quilts from our digital camera, cropping and tweaking the lighting and color as well as automatically generating a finished web page. We simply upload to our web site the folder Picasa2 created, where everyone can enjoy the images. They even have a method of posting your "album" free through Google if you don't have your own web site.

Random Thanks Drawing

Each month Kelly Ann draws a name from among our previous month's customers. The lucky winner will receive a store credit of $25 as a thank-you for supporting your local quilt shop! Anyone shopping with us over the past month is eligible regardless of past selections. Award credits do not expire.

This month's winner is Maggie Ward of Warrenton. Thanks, Maggie! Your name is tagged with a store credit, which will be automatically applied to future purchases.

Gift Certs, Wish Lists And The Quilter On Your Gift List

The holidays are here, and Kelly Ann's has a number of options for gift-giving ease.

We start off with assortment collections of Fusions fat quarters in holiday tins, pre-packed and ready for purchase. These collected fats make a great combo gift when paired with a Crazy Eights, 5 & Dime or Turning Twenty pattern, or all on their own. They come in a variety of sizes to fit your budget.

Our gift certificates, which may be used for any item or long-arm service, are available in any denomination and may be purchased at the store, over the phone or online. We're happy to send a gift certificate anywhere in the US via the next day's mail, too!

We can help you build a wish-list of items in our store, down to the measured yard of fabric, for easy purchase by your family or friends. Stop in, bring your wished-for items to the cutting table and we'll scan them into our computer system under your name. We'll ship these items anywhere in the world at our usual shipping rates (usually flat-rate USPS).

Finally, for the more adventurous gift-giver, we'll gladly assist in selecting ensembles of fabric, by the yard or pre-cut, as well as quilting tool kits for the beginner or more advanced quilter on your list.

Viewing Our Site

We're making changes to the markup language we use to create pages on our web site, including the newsletters. One change is that red and green "snow" falling down the page. If you use Internet Explorer to view our site, these changes may be blocked and you may notice a warning at the top of the page about scripts and ActiveX controls. Simply click that warning, then click "allow blocked content" to let the page render fully.

Users of the Firefox browser won't have this problem. If you're interested, take this opportunity to try out the Firefox browser by clicking the Firefox button at the lower left of each newsletter. Firefox is a free product with a MUCH stronger security track record, and automatically imports your bookmarks and settings when installed. It couldn't be easier!

Holiday Closing

Kelly Ann's Quilting will be closed December 23 through December 28 for Christmas. We'll re-open for our regular hours Friday, December 29.

We will also be closed Monday, January 1.

December has arrived and the holiday season is in full swing. Here at Kelly Ann's we're working toward getting all of our quilting jobs out in time for holiday gift-giving, just as we begin stocking up for the coming season's quilting projects.

Empress Woo has begun to trickle in, not as quickly as we'd have liked, but will make a splash in the coming month. Look for an announcement in your email and a sample with the fabric on our front table.

Kelly Ann and Andrew, Jackie, Nanette, Trish and Irma all wish you the very best of holiday seasons, a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and prosperous 2007. As always, we hope to see you soon at Kelly Ann's.

In 2003, in Staunton, Virginia, a six year-old Malamute-Husky mix dog named Mosby, a local icon, storefront pal and friend to many was shot point-blank, and killed. Mosby's death was felt not only in Staunton, but across the US as the story of his death spread. From that tragedy sprang The Mosby Foundation: organized exclusively for charitable purposes, to assist in the care of sick, injured, abused and neglected dogs through financial support and public education. Take a look at their web site, read Mosby's story and help support The Mosby Foundation!
